Spectacle Spectacular:  Drawings
The spectacle of the fashion industry is intended to inspire cooptation of consumeristic
values among the masses.  The primary focus of my
Spectacle Spectacular drawings is
to explore and expose the consumer underpinnings that are psychodynamic and can be
found within the environments of fashion editorials that feature consumable products.
The focal point of the fashion editorials of popular culture is product placement,
promotion, and sales.  In my drawings I remove the products, therefore changing the
focal point.   Through this process I discovered a repeating theme:  the importance of
high culture practices and participating in it.    Because of this perception, I believe that
the featured products, which I remove, function as souvenirs for the spectator, the
consumer.    By removing the products I heighten the viewer's awareness of the
psychodynamic power of the environments in which products are presented.

The drawings featured on
this page were created
mostly by images extracted
from
issues of Vogue
magazine from 1980-1990.
Prior to beginning each
drawing I deconstructed
and reconstructed select
issues; by that I mean I
created a unique 3-D
maquette to serve as a still
life for each work.  Multiple
fashion editorials were
re-edited, slashed, cut, and
pasted into a composite
subject for each work.
